Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between Asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGP-R) expression in the placenta of HBsAg positive mothers and HBV DNA in the baby's umbilical cord blood. The samples used were 66 placentas from parturient mothers who had positive HBsAg serum, histopathological processing was carried out into placental paraffin blocks, then immunohistochemical staining was carried out with ASGP-R monoclone antibodies. Umbilical cord blood samples were also taken from 66 samples for HBV DNA examination using the nested PCR method. Results: By carrying out immunohistochemical staining of ASGP-R expression from 66 samples of maternal placenta with positive HBsAg, it showed that 40 samples had score I criteria, 4 samples had score II criteria, 6 samples had score III criteria, and 16 samples had score IV criteria. And during the HBV DNA examination of the umbilical cord, 4 samples of umbilical cord blood were found to be positive for the Hepatitis B virus. It can be concluded that the placenta is a unique organ that God has given to pregnant women as a mechanical barrier as well as an immunological barrier that prevents viral infections and other potential effects. which is bad for the baby during the pregnancy process.
